On Sunday June 7, 2009, beginning at the Richmond Olympic Oval at 9:00am, the relay will begin. The torch relay will make brief stops at all 8 Community Centres in Richmond and finish at the Minoru Seniors' Centre at approximately 3:00pm.
Following the relay, all relay participants and volunteers are invited to attend an awards reception hosted by the Steveston Rotary Club. For full information please read the Press Release.

MAY 24, 2009 — On Sunday June 7 from 9am to 3pm the Rotary Club of Steveston is sponsoring and hosting a Seniors Torch Relay to increase awareness of the B.C. Seniors Games.
This relay will bring together all Richmond as 40 elite senior athletes carry the seniors games torch 57 km around the city passing each community centre. As well, the runners will carry a Proclamation to each community association from the Mayor asking all Seniors to participate in the games from September 16–19, 2009.
Escorting the relay runners will be RCMP motorcycle escort and a patrol vehicle, a support vehicle from the Rotary Club of Steveston, and a vehicle from Richmond Fire Rescue. The Richmond Amateur Radio Society will be present to broadcast GPS location and other information along the route.
The Seniors Torch Relay starts at the Olympic Oval at precisely 9:00am, passes Sea Island 9:20, Thompson 9:50, West Richmond 10:10, Steveston 10:30, South Arm 11:10, Hamilton 12:50, East Richmond 2:10, City Centre 2:40, and the Seniors Torch Relay will arrive at the Minoru Seniors Centre around 3:00pm.
Once the torch arrives at Minoru Seniors Centre it will be used by the 2009 BC Senior Games Society for a cauldron lighting ceremony to mark their 100 day countdown to the 2009 BC Seniors Games.
The Seniors Games are held annually across BC, this year in Richmond. 4000 athletes aged 55 and up from all parts of BC are expected to converge here to compete in dozens of sports in locations all across Richmond, including at the Richmond Oval and at Minoru Park.
All sports competitions will be free admission to the public, and many volunteers are needed to ensure a successful games. The 2009 BC Seniors Games are the result of a successful bid by the Richmond Sports Council, and are hosted by the City of Richmond with support by School District 38 and many other sponsors. Following the Relay conclusion and Cauldron Lighting, at approximately 3:30pm all athletes, dignitaries, and community centre directors who participated in the Relay are invited to join us at the Minoru Seniors Centre for a reception which will mark the conclusion of the Relay and Seniors Week. The reception is hosted by the Rotary Club of Steveston and President Dr. Doug Nielsen.
