The Rotary Club of Steveston hosted the 4th Annual "Fish Boat Festival" on Sept 24 and 25, 2004.
The Fish Boat Festival is an opportunity to showcase the fishing industry in the Steveston Harbour. Boats representing each of the catch methods are represented and attendees are able to board the vessels and ask questions of the captains and crews. Also in attendance are rescue craft and several heritage boats.
The Britannia Shipyard Historical Society is joining the event this year and will be hosting a model boat building concession. Students will be given the opportunity to assemble from precut parts a small fish boat model to take with them.
Friday the 24th is set aside for visits by students from local schools. Each of the two past years, approximately 500 students from Richmond schools have viewed the boats. It is very much an educational day. Saturday the 25th is more for the general public. Last year's event had over 500 students in attendance on the Friday and over 400 people attended on the Saturday.
Local Rotarians with the help of students from local secondary school leadership programs act as the tour guides.
