Richmond Tall Ships

August 2002

Almost 2 years of planning went into the 2002 Richmond Tall Ships. The Rotary Club of Steveston had 3 members on the organizing committee, Bill McNulty, Peter Mitchell, and Jim Toogood.

Additionally, under the direction of Rob Madsen, our Rotary Club and other Rotarians in Richmond performed the security for all ship boarding. Rotarians comprised 100+ of the 2000+ event volunteers.

The waterfront of old Steveston was closed to traffic up to Moncton Road for the over 400,000 people attending the 4 day August 2002 Festival associated with the Tall Ships.

Approximately 2 dozen Tall Ships berthed in Steveston, at Britannia Shipyard, and at south end of #3 Road, giving visitors a glimpse of Steveston's past.
