Steveston Santa Claus Parade

Steveston Rotary Santa Claus Parade — 6 pm, December 23

At 6 pm each December 23 we continue a decades long Steveston tradition by hosting the Santa Claus parade through old Steveston village, and through the townsite along Moncton Street ending in the Steveston Community Centre Parking lot. We also collect food and cash donations for local food programs. Please bring your family and join us. View parade route »

No snow on the parade this year. As always "Santa" was our special guest and we had variety of floats, marching band, and community organizations as well as festive entertainment. Rotarians collected non-perishable food donations that are put into hampers and delivered to seniors within the community. All other food is delivered to the Richmond Food Bank for regular distribution. As always, any cash donations received during the parade is donated to the Richmond schools breakfast program.

Weather was cold and the parade route was covered with snow. People returning home got stuck at the beginning of our parade route and we had to push them to move them along! The roadside ditches were hard to see so the reindeer bus stayed on 4th Avenue as the parade followed the route through Steveston Village. We still managed to cover the route and were pleased so many were undeterred by the weather.

December 2007

After a one year hiatus, the Rotary Club of Steveston with the Steveston Community Society revived a 30+ year tradition started by the Steveston Lions Club.

The 2007 Steveston Santa Claus Parade was headed by the RCMP, with the Bicknell honor guard and marching band, the Richmond Chorus singing while riding in Steveston Community Society hay wagons, our food collection vehicle, the Coast Mountain Reindeer bus, the Richmond Fire Rescue truck, and our special guest - Santa Claus riding in his sleigh.

At 6pm on the last Sunday before Christmas, we marched a route between 2nd and 6th Avenues in old Steveston and then traveled south and east on Bayview Avenue, collecting food and cash donations for Steveston residents enroute to the community centre for a mug-up for parade participants.

The next day we repacked donations into 2 dozen hampers and distributed them in the community.
